We provide support for mother who are breastfeeding their babies. This may include exclusive breastfeeding as well as complementary feedings from bottle and transition to solids after 6 months of age.

Typical mother's and infant's issues can be identified and counseling provided for help with positioning, latch and other issues to help promote the most positive nursing experience. Sometimes, issues may also arise after the newborn period. In particular, we can assist with those babies who may have had medical issues interfering with the smooth transition including Down Syndrome, Clefts and TOTs (tethered oral tissue such as tongue tie). More complex issues can be referred to our wonderful IBCLC colleagues.

Shira has been trained by The Healthy Children Project Certified Lactation Counselor course. She specializes in identifying functional issues caused by tethered oral tissues (TOTs) including tongue tie and upper lip tie, and helping parents how to prepare for a release of those restrictions and treatment following. In addition, her 14 years of experience in the NICU and her own experience with her firstborn with initial breastfeeding issues 25 years ago have prepared her and driven her to expand to helping breastfeeding infants and toddlers.
